Just east of Austin along the banks of the Colorado River, New Republic Studios is a traditional television and film studio, currently having four purpose-built sound stages along with several production facilities and 200 acres of diverse production-friendly backlot. New Republic Studios is expanding to become a multi-platform creative campus serving the film, television, music, commercial, new media, AR/VR/XR and community at large.

  • John Robison

    Chairman & CEO

    Mr. Robison, 54, has a 30-year career believing in the marriage between content and technology. He has a successful history investing and building disruptive companies identifying and securing leading edge, innovative developers and technology from around the globe beginning with E-Systems (now owned by Raytheon). 

    Currently, Robison serves on the board of the Austin Film Society & Studios with Richard Linklater, Austin Public (Public Television) and the Austin Music Awards with SXSW. He is the founding owner of New Republic Studios (formerly Spiderwood Studios) on its 200-acre lot along the Colorado river minutes from Austin. Past relationships in the film industry began in 1994 with Regent Entertainment and Bad Hat Harry as well as Last Chance Picture Co (with Bryan Cranston) and HMW (with Albert S. Ruddy) and China partner Sil Metropole, the most critical and historic film partner in China (via Hong Kong as the only one to receive censorship review exemption for China). Most recently, Robison has helped form Truth + Fiction (Dallas Buyers Club). 

    Robison continues his dedication to new technology sparking change and currently serves as Chairman and Co-Founder of a transformative GaaP technology, Gov Whiz, Inc.  (with Morgan Warstler), multimedia technology platform ArenaEdge, Inc. and Vizidot helping brands to use their brand logos to bring consumable content (music, movies and education) to the masses. 

    Robison’s private equity participation includes ground-breaking Internet trends such as polite delivery technologies (Load Media Network with Warstler), early file sharing companies (Bluemoon/Fasttrack) which launched Kazaa and Skype, education-based Knowledge Universe companies (including Vidyah, Tech Chek, PPI and Leap Frog) and data storage company Rackspace (founded by fellow A&M friend Graham Weston). 

    Robison is a 1985 graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor in business administration degree.  

  • Joe Newcomb

    Co-Chairman

    Joe Newcomb serves as Chairman and Chief Executive officer of TRUTH Industries, which comprises of an expanding portfolio of businesses including marketing and distribution, properties, design, investments, development, and entertainment. Building upon his 22-year career in the chemical and fertilizing industry, Newcomb founded TRUTH Chemical in 2002 and TRUTH Products in 2005, an innovative leader in marketing, trading and distribution servicing the agricultural, oil, gas, and drilling business sectors as well as the consumer lawn and garden market. He began his career in the chemical sector at the Fortune 500 company Potash Corp (formerly known as Arcadian Corporation), the world’s largest fertilizer company serving as their sales manager.

    In 2012, Newcomb founded the production company TRUTH Entertainment. Their first film, Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, was praised by audiences and critics alike. The film grossed over $65 million worldwide and was nominated for six Academy Awards®, taking home for lead actor, supporting actor and makeup and hair. TRUTH Entertainment is currently filming The Tribes of Palos Verdes with Jennifer Garner and is in post-production on Stealing Cars with William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman. They recently announced two new projects in development: The Nobistor Affair, the true story of a top-secret mission to overthrow the Ghana government and Ruby’s Prayer, an adaptation of a historical novel about a family’s epic struggle during the final days of the Wild West in a post-Civil War America.

    Prior to getting his start in business and entertainment, Newcomb pitched professionally for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1987 to 1990 in their minor league affiliates, the St. Catherines Blue Jays and the Medicine Hat Blue Jays, before an injury ended his promising career. After leaving baseball, he went back to college and earned his degree in Business Administration from the University of Memphis. Newcomb supports and serves on boards on a variety of charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, Education for Tomorrow Alliance, National MS Society, St. Anthony of Padua, and Tri-County Services Montgomery County.

  • Brad Pittenger

    Managing Director

    Brad serves on the Executive Committee of New Republic Pictures as well as New Republic Studios. Pittenger graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in History and Philosophy and received his Juris Doctor in 1980. He was in private practice in Corporate Finance for 10 years before serving for 15 years as General Counsel and Head of Strategic Acquisitions and Operations for V.T., Inc where he assisted in growing the company from annual sales of $300M to more than $4B. Pittenger has spent the past 15 years as an investor and managing operations in media based production and distribution companies, hospitality, multi-platform technology companies, and real estate development.

    Director, Marketing & Development

    As a creative at heart, Mindy has been involved in every aspect of the filmmaking process. Her acting career, which was her first passion, took her to New York City to study at the prestigious Michael Howard Studios. While in NYC, she found a love for producing and creative marketing. Mindy lived in NYC for seven years and was bi-coastal, living in Los Angeles, for the last two. She worked with the Seattle Film Festival, spearheading their Platinum Pass Concierge Experience. Being a graduate of the University of Texas, Mindy was anxious to get back to Austin and there, found her footing and place in the world of film and TV. She has spent the last three years as the first Executive Director of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance, the organization advocating and fighting for a stronger rebate incentive program in Texas. She has lead the charge to inform and educate our State Representatives and Senators about the massive impact production has on our state. Now, Director of Marketing and Development for New Republic Studios, Mindy’s talents and her ability to connect people will help launch the studios to be the epicenter for the creative media world.

    Barry Rogers has played a part in media and creative storytelling since the age of 15, when he started working as a country music deejay. At the age of 24, Barry went into television, starting off as production assistant and later becoming a producer on the DFW based talk show Positively Texas. After several years, Barry moved into public relations. He ran his own PR business for over seven years, working long term with clients like actor John Schneider, comedienne Ruth Buzzi and screen icon Ruta Lee. He's also managed press projects for entertainers like Judge Reinhold, George Takei, Peter Mayhew, Dionne Warwick and Ty Pennington. Barry's hosted and co-produced marketing videos that have generated over 500,000 YouTube views. He recently moved to Austin to take on the new role of managing day-to-day operations at New Republic Studios. Barry is excited to be supporting filmmakers and musicians who want to tell their stories.
